About Zohreh Kohzadi (MCP, Registered Clinical Counsellor)

Who I Am as a Therapist

A woman wearing a black hijab, gray blazer, and white shirt smiling and standing with her arms crossed against a plain white wall.

My journey into counselling began long before my formal training. I started my professional life in engineering and data analytics, fields that trained me to think precisely, recognize patterns, and approach complexity with curiosity. Yet, again and again, I found myself drawn not to systems or numbers, but to people, their stories, their struggles, and the quiet courage it takes to be vulnerable. Over time, it became clear that supporting others emotionally was not just an interest, but a calling.

I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and have since worked with individuals, couples, families, trauma survivors, newcomers, and people navigating major life transitions. My professional experience spans trauma counselling, crisis intervention, community mental health, and family support services. These roles shaped me into a therapist who listens deeply, thinks carefully, and holds space with both compassion and steadiness.

Alongside my clinical training, my life experience deeply informs how I show up as a therapist. As a mother, wife, friend, and community member, I understand the emotional weight of responsibility, the complexity of relationships, and the tension between caring for others and caring for oneself. I am familiar with the realities of cultural expectations, migration, identity shifts, and the unseen labour that often accompanies family and relational roles. These lived experiences allow me to meet clients with empathy that is grounded, not theoretical.

Clients often describe my presence as calm, warm, intuitive, and thoughtful; someone who can understand what they are going through while also gently helping them see possibilities they may not yet notice. I value honesty, respect, cultural humility, and faith-sensitive, inclusive practice. My intention is to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, respected, and supported as they explore their inner world at their own pace.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: every person has the capacity to heal, and with the right support, can reconnect with who they truly want to become.
Whether you are facing anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, identity questions, or a desire for personal growth, I would be honoured to walk alongside you with care, clarity, and respect as you move toward balance, self-understanding, and emotional freedom.

I provide Counselling in both English and Farsi (Persian).

My Approach

A woman wearing a black hijab and white blouse sitting at a desk, using a laptop in a modern office or home workspace.

I believe that effective therapy begins with feeling truly understood, not analyzed, judged, or placed into a single framework. My approach is integrative, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs, recognizing that each person’s story, goals, and experiences are different.

Therapy with me is flexible and responsive. Depending on what you are navigating, I may draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to support emotion regulation and distress tolerance, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you live in alignment with your values, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for deeper emotional processing, attachment-based approaches to explore relational patterns, or the Gottman Method when working with couples. Often, our work involves a thoughtful integration of these approaches rather than relying on a single technique.

I also incorporate mindfulness-based and somatic-informed approaches, recognizing that emotional experiences are held not only in the mind, but also in the body. When appropriate, we may work with nervous system awareness, grounding practices, and body-based strategies to support regulation, safety, and resilience particularly for those impacted by trauma, chronic stress, or emotional overwhelm.

My work is grounded in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and anti-oppressive care. I recognize how past experiences, relationships, culture, identity, and systemic factors shape emotional well-being. I take time to understand the broader context of your life not just symptoms and adapt therapy as your needs and goals evolve.

Some clients come seeking practical tools and structure; others need space for deeper emotional or relational exploration. Many need both. Together, we clarify your goals, build insight, and develop skills that support meaningful and lasting change both inside and outside the therapy room.

Above all, I strive to offer a space that feels safe, respectful, and human, where you can show up as you are and work toward a life that feels more grounded, connected, and aligned with what matters most to you.
