Counselling FAQs: appointments, fees and what to expect

I work with adults, couples, and parents who are experiencing emotional, relational, or life challenges.

Common concerns include anxiety, emotional overwhelm, depression, anger and emotional regulation difficulties, relationship and communication challenges, parenting stress, intimacy and sexual concerns within relationships, trauma-related symptoms, life transitions, boundary challenges, and patterns that feel difficult to change.

Many clients come to counselling not because something is “wrong,” but because they want greater understanding, emotional awareness, and healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

No, a diagnosis is not required to begin counselling.

Many people seek counselling to better understand themselves, improve relationships, or navigate stressful or transitional periods in their lives. Counselling can be helpful whether or not a formal diagnosis is present.

Together, we focus on your experiences, goals, and what feels most meaningful for you to work on.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward, counselling can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit — many people come simply because they want clarity, support, or a space to understand themselves better.

Most clients start with weekly or bi‑weekly sessions to build momentum and stability. Over time, we may shift to less frequent sessions as you feel more grounded. We’ll decide together based on your needs, goals, and comfort.

The best way to know if I’m the right counsellor for you is to notice how you feel when we talk. You don’t need to have the “perfect” words or a clear plan — just a sense of whether you feel understood, respected, and at ease in our conversations.

Clients who choose to work with me often say they appreciate my calm presence, my ability to listen deeply, and the way I help them make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. I bring a blend of warmth, intuition, and evidence‑based skills, and I tailor our work to your pace, your goals, and your lived experience.

If you’re looking for a counsellor who is:

• gentle but honest

• warm but grounded

• skilled but never clinical or detached

• culturally sensitive and trauma‑informed

• able to offer both emotional support and practical tools

…then we may be a good fit.

You don’t have to decide right away. Many people start with one session to get a feel for the space and see if it feels right for them. My hope is that you leave that first meeting feeling a little lighter, a little clearer, and a little more supported — and from there, you’ll know.

I require at least 48 hours notice for appointment cancellation or rescheduling. Sessions with less than 48-hours notice are subject to be billed at half of the session fee; sessions with less than 24-hours notice will be billed for the entire session.

Yes. I practice with cultural humility and offer faith‑sensitive counselling for clients who want their cultural or spiritual values to be part of the conversation. You’re welcome to bring your full identity into the room.

You can book your first session through the Book Now page or reach out through the Contact form. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to offer a brief consultation so you can get a sense of whether we’re a good fit.

Many extended health benefits plans in BC include coverage for Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs). Coverage amounts and percentages vary by plan, so I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm:

Yes. I offer direct billing through most extended health benefits providers. This means I can bill your insurance company directly for your counselling sessions.

Direct billing allows your insurance provider to pay for your session directly, so you don’t need to submit receipts or wait for reimbursement.

Yes. Even with direct billing, you’ll receive a receipt for your records.
